Mephiles the Skunk

i’ll be honest, I only thought of this because the scientific name for the striped skunk is “Mephitis mephitis” and that looks like the name "mephiles" lol

Mephiles is a shapeshifting time god thing, so he doesn't NEED to be a shadow recolor. I know there's some excuses in the story for why he's a shadow recolor, but it's still not really necessary, either.

Here he has taken on the appearance of a more "normal" mobian in order to blend in better... although the distinctive lack of mouth stays, since it's cool.
This version begins looking like a semi-normal skunk, but over the course of Shadow's story, gradually his appearance distorts and becomes far more demented-looking, approaching like John Carpenter's The Thing territory, perhaps melding with the boss battle environment itself, becoming like this sprawling partially crystallized flesh monstrosity.
He could shapeshift into looking like "Shadow Mephiles" too, since he's a shapeshifter, if he wanted to taunt Shadow or flaunt his power or something, but that wouldn't be his normal state.
