:star::star::star:If you’re curious about Jet’s family, and in order to understand some of this, check THIS out!

So, these are nailgargles for the other rogues. and to those of you who don't like the Babylon Rogues for whatever weird reason... get some taste!!
My friend :iconkineticmint: thought i should make fanparents for Wave and Storm to go with Jet's and that's exactly what i was thinking >B-( She helped me come up with most of these names (enlil, torque, bay, and we both thought of rain so it was psychically perfect), and also suggested Bay's species and to make Storm's parents different types of albatross.

:bulletpink: RAIN is Storm's mother and a black-footed albatross, a species native to Hawaii in real life. She was the pilot and navigator of the previous rogues generation.
She is kind but a bit spacey. When she was younger, she was struck by lightning which put a cartoonish lightning bolt in her hair and awoke some kind of atmokinetic powers, which are a trait many Babylonians have. Hers are unusually strong, however, and appeared all at once, so she's had a hard time controlling them and they made her a bit of a cloudcuckoolander. She can have an effect on the area around her. If she's in a bad mood, you can tell because she's got a broom and she's hitting the thundercloud that's been raining on her head all day. She used her powers strategically to avoid people, walking around in a perpetual fog, until she ran into Enlil on the beach one day probably. Once she gained more control over her powers she felt way more confident and wanted to join the Rogues.
She fidgets with her fingers when she's nervous. She likes to make people feel welcome. She will invite anyone in for tea and is very friendly and helpful, but also is the type to make tea, set it aside for it to cool, and then forget about it. She is good at managing and keeping track of bigger things, but less so little everyday things. She is an expert navigator, knows the celestial maps by heart, and loves zodiac-related content, so keep your birth date away from her unless you want her to start remarking on the influence of Nergal in your star chart. She enjoys cooking.
She calls Storm "a little stormcloud" affectionately because of his white baby albatross feathers zapping things with static electricity and generally knocking things over. She's very proud of him and fawns over her little "gentleman." She gets all teary-eyed looking at his baby pictures and his first day of school and him showing off his rogue tattoos etc etc.
She isn't much for racing, but she uses a specially-made fly-type EX gear. This is especially useful for doing repairs on the Babylonian airship mid-flight. It is very stable, and unusually large, thanks to Bay's meddling.

:bulletpink: ENLIL is Storm's father and a gray-headed albatross. (Storm is like a hybrid of the two albatross species) "Enlil" is the name of a Babylonian storm god (basically, the Babylonian version of Zeus lol). Enlil was the muscle of the team and the healer. He has some mysterious power related to spirits.
He and Rain trained together in a Babylonian temple thing dedicated to controlling powers and preserving the language and culture of their anscestors, as well as like martial arts etc, like one of those kind of things. They have a meager cache of Babylonian artifacts and history thanks to the Rogues, but 99.99% is lost and scattered around the world still.
Enlil was the son of one of the priest-type people at this temple, so he usually had to clean up if Rain accidentally caused some destruction. Don't think he minded, he was volunteering - he wanted an excuse to hang around Rain.
He has a stuttering problem like Storm when he's nervous, so he had to practice a lot of public speaking. He'll sound really clear and confident most of the time but if he's startled he starts stammering and scratching his head. He tends to be late for things and bursts into the room apologizing.
He may be the muscle of the team, but he is also gentle and kind. He would come to the aid of anyone needing medical attention. His healing might look a little strange from the perspective of a non-Babylonian, but hey, it works lol. Of course, when it comes to reclaiming treasures of Babylon, he has no problem knocking out people if he has to, but he's the type to apologize sincerely before he knocks you out cold. Thanks to his training as a healer, his blows don't ever do any lasting damage, but they incapacitate people for a while.
After retiring from the Rogues he went back to working as a priest-type of person in the temple. He likes stacking stones. He also enjoys eating.
He is like the kind of dad and person who recites fables from the scripture for every occasion. Everyone gets tired of hearing them except Storm, who's practically taking notes. He'll be like "okay son, THIS is how you fish," and then comically screw up like get the fishing hook caught on the tree, and Storm copies him exactly out of filial piety.
I based his design off the Babylon Guardian, Angelus the Gatekeeper, who has a notable resemblance to Storm. Enlil and the other priest people wear clothes based on it out of respect to it. In the myth the guardian is a protector of knowledge, and the hologram guarding the Babylon Garden is based off of the iconic appearance of the spirit, not the other way around lol. The charm necklace Enlil wears with the three plates signifies his role as a protector and guardian of important things. The plates have engraved inscriptions on the back probably.
He has a power-type board that is specially built by Bay to accomodate his incredibly large size. It's big and heavy which makes it useful for carrying away a load of treasure or a rescued team member.

:bulletpink: BAY is Wave's dad and Jet's uncle and Vortex's older brother. That makes Wave and Jet cousins (I don't ship jetwave or sonjet or anything so go elsewhere for it if you're into that). The word "bay" is both a body of water and also a term for a dedicated area for something on a ship, like a weapons bay, etc. He is a swift, which are similar to swallows and resemble anchors when in the air. Swifts are also one of the fastest species of birds. As a result of his natural speed boost and, yanno, being the older brother, he always beat Vortex in every race when they were growing up, whether it was on foot or in the air. His head start made him cocky and overconfident and a little lazy. He's used to winning easily, so much that he's a bit of a sore loser.
If he's surpassed, it gets under his skin and drives him into a frenzy. He has to be the best. He seems calm at first, and he is, as long as he's winning, but he's extremely competitive and has to assert his superiority. You can get to him REALLY easily - either trash his work, act like he isn't talented, insult or ignore his skill, or pick on Vortex, and he'll be yelling and throwing things and challenging you to a showdown and blah blah blah.
He loves to tinker with the boards and do tune-ups and build new ones. He loves making things explode and like crashing test boards into each other and refurbishing classic boards like old Babylon Standards. He also builds weapons and helps maintain the airship, but nobody makes finer extreme gears, except his daughter pfft. When it comes to topics of his interest, he's extremely wild and intensely passionate about them, but his technical jargon tends to go over his friends' heads. Like, way over. So, he doesn't show his real feelings, and acts cool and aloof instead. He's always acting calm and cheerful and disinterested, as if nothing can bother him. He's only willing to work hard if it's something important to him or if he's dragged into it by his competitive nature. He is absolutely willing to fight dirty.
I based his design off the Jet concept designs - I noticed they had traits that reminded me of Wave, so I thought it would be cool to incorporate those and make him Vortex's brother to keep the Jet connection.
His board is speed-type with extremely sensitive precision handling, it responds to the slightest twitch of his toes basically. He can get it to do tricks nobody else can. Wave was inspired by this when making Jet's board, although the peaky tuning of the Type-J is specialized for Jet and way different than Bay's board.

:bulletpink: TORQUE is Wave's mother. She is a swallow, like Wave. The word "torque" means a measure of turning or twisting force, which is used to improve vehicle acceleration, and also serves as a reference to torque wrenches/screwdrivers. She, like Bay, is a technician and extreme gear rider, and worked with a group rival to the Babylon Rogues. She doesn't have the flame tattoos as a result, and sometimes she feels a little out of place with both her husband and daughter having been part of the Rogues but not her.
So Torque is a bit of a hothead, she has quite a chip on her shoulder. She is a very hard worker and a dedicated perfectionist. She plans everything out and finishes her projects. Her pride is in the completion of something she set out to do. She will happily work for hours and hours on something, pouring all of her effort into making it of the very finest caliber, no matter what it is. She will not rest until she's satisfied. Bay sometimes calls her "Dorky Torky" just to tease her.
She's basically extremely intense and wild about technology. She can rave for hours about it, but it sounds like gobbledegook to everyone else. Because of this, she is certain that basically everyone but her is a total bonehead idiot (with a few exceptions), and so she has a bit of a condescending, smug attitude. She uses "very small words" and oversimplifies her language, which makes people annoyed, like she thinks she's so much better than them - and well, she does, lol. She's ferociously competitive. She is absolutely willing to fight dirty.
She's extremely proud and does not take kindly to people who brush her off or ignore her. When she first went into pro racing, she was smugly mocked and disregarded because of the legacy of her parents (also racers) or something. Much of her motivation to succeed comes from a vengeful desire to "show them wrong!" She wants Wave to feel completely confident in her own abilities no matter what anyone says - she might have succeeded a little too well.
She and Bay were rivals in fierce competition - she liked to twist the knife by one-upping Bay in extreme gear engineering and then explaining *just* how much better her work was than his in agonizing detail, just to make him sweat. She wanted him to admit defeat but instead, he would double down and then one-up HER, and act like it all came so naturally to him, which drove her up the wall and blah blah it is a cycle.
This all was (as is obvious in hindsight) a frustrated misinterpretation of their real feelings. Apart from being on rival teams, both of them were far too proud to admit how impressed they were by the other's skill, and felt perhaps a bit threatened, but also were intrigued, because... "this is someone who gets me."
Her board is power-type, she likes bulldozing through things - she thinks it's relaxing. Her board has good acceleration, but it's a little... well, Bay would call it "a flying brick." She cackles maniacally as obstacles blast into pieces around her and enjoys slamming into other racers, doing whatever it takes to win. She was soon banned from legal racing circuits and went into the racing underworld where crashing into people is allowed, which is how she ended up with her team.

~~~
Design-wise, you will notice a pattern of one parent looking a lot like the kid... I did that intentionally, since Jet's dad canonically looks just like him and I didn't want to leave the others out pfft.
So, the Babylonians arrived from the Sol Dimension on the Babylon Garden in ancient times, and, stuck on the planet, set up shop. They developed an immensely influential empire that spread all over Sonic's world from the Gigan Rocks to Soleanna, but then over the years their culture fragmented and much was lost.
The original Babylonians were masters of magic, but their blood was diluted and they were soon weakened, and unable to reproduce what they had originally been able to do. They lost their ability to understand their old technology and could no longer perform the feats that their society had depended on, and so they were overrun and their treasure and knowledge taken, destroyed, lost to time. There are Babylonian descendants all over the world, but many of them don't realize it - although if they know what to look for, another Babylonian can sense it.
The Rogues are essentially the only ones remaining that seek to preserve the secrets and ways of their ancestors. Of course, the ways of their ancestors include thievery and treasure-hoarding, but you should respect their culture >:v
They're after Babylonian artifacts and treasures of course, but they'll happily take any treasure they can get.
The first Babylon rogues were a society of thieves devoted to treasure-hunting - perhaps they started out trying to steal back the treasures of Babylon, but then got confused, and started gleefully stealing everything. In any case, they're after treasure, and they don't ask permission.
The thirteenth leader of the Babylon Rogues, Stolen, and his crew were responsible for the invention of the first Extreme Gear, the magic carpet - this was fantastic, because before then the Babylonians had to expend effort to stay airborne. One assumes they were able to fly, most likely by some kind of air manipulation and not so much flapping their arms pfft. Ever since then, using Extreme Gears has been part of the Babylon Rogue tradition.
The flame tattoos symbolize membership and dedication to the Babylon Rogues. To join, you must earn them first by proving your mastery of the Gear.
The red and black eye makeup is also a symbol of Rogues membership, but it's optional. The tattoos aren't.
The Babylonians don't have kids with non-birds, as part of a tradition. There is a good reason for this: the "Babylonian gene" only seems to be compatible with bird-phenotype mobians. Anything else weakens the line and was a major cause for the downfall of the Babylonian civilization in the first place. The original Babylonians had great powers, which have been diluted down to comparatively minor air-related abilities. None of them have body gems anymore, either.
Jet doesn't actually know his mother's species. He does know people look at him funny sometimes for some reason, as if they're suspicious about something, and he doesn't like it.
It was my friend's idea that Jet would do kitty things because his mom is a cat, such as enjoying being scratched under the chin/beak and playing with yarn, hehe.
The current rogues operate out of a hideout island, where they stash their treasure hoard. This island is populated with a small population of Babylon descendants.
Over time, a city of outsiders sprang up nearby. It's a pretty popular vacation destination because of good surfing, lovely beaches, EX gear racing, great malls, clear water, the pretty island atmosphere, and friendly dolphins. Outside of the more touristy areas, though, it's a haven for thieves, treasure hunters, and harbors an illegal underground EX-gear racing circuit. Lots of people hear rumors about treasure and come looking for it, but the Babylonian treasure is impossible to get to unless you're an expert extreme gear rider, so forget about that.
There's plenty of sunken pirate treasure in the region, though, because of wild water and air currents.
I want to make a map of this place with locations marked on it so it's easier to picture.
